Dear Diary,
Friday’s festive feast was FANTASTIC!
I went to the store inspired and found an abundance of unique foods that started with F. There were so many F foods that I had to change my strategy of putting them ALL in my cart, and instead be choosier about those that made the grade. The following considerations were thus adopted:
Food group balance: There was a real threat of this meal being all carbohydrates. The F food world is CLEARLY weighted in that sector. The meal was still wonderfully carb heavy, but I couldn’t afford to grab every Farbohydrate I came across.
Uniqueness: Anyone who has embraced a chaotic lifestyle will gravitate to the weird and the wonderful. We enjoy jumping into the unknown and trying new things. Unique foods would OBVIOUSLY have an advantage in this competition of scrumptiousness.
Favorites and staples: These are the tried and the true, the cozy, and the beloved foods that we know will keep us fed if the unique foods don’t pan out. There’s nothing wrong with having a safety net.
Foods that kids will eat: It all comes to nothing if the family won’t eat the festive feast. It might mean getting some “basic” F foods, but it’s important to consider allergies and dietary preferences. It’s all about balance.
Using the above guidelines, I was able to cultivate a fine Friday feast without breaking the bank, or our stomachs. Even then, we were lavishly full for days, but we F-ed the eff out of Friday!
The finely crafted fun Friday feast included:
- French baguette
- Caramelized onion focaccia
- Fig and honey batard artisan bread
- Falafel
- Dill pickle mini falafel
- Cheese filled fiocchetti with pink sauce
- Indian Fare Kitchari (I admit it was a bit of a stretch but I needed some variety)
- French fries
- French vanilla ice cream topped with freeze dried fruits
- Frozen fruit frenzy bars
Yes, this fancy feast was fantastic, but I think next time we’ll just do Friday Finger Foods instead.
