We Need Joy Just As Much As We Need Love

Let’s have some fun, shall we?

Once a month, find a small inexpensive and easy way to have fun and share it with someone. This could be going on a mural walk or drive to see your city’s street art. Trying out a new coffee shop or park. Bake something you’ve never made before and do a bake swap with a friend.

Remember to have fun.

Make it a point to have fun.

We think of fun as spontaneous joy, something that just happens. It’s elusive and extra, like the sprinkles on top of a cupcake. The cupcake wasn’t created for the sprinkles, but it does make the cupcake extra special when the sprinkles are there.

Fun is more than sprinkles on a cupcake.

It’s more important than the occasional self-indulgent treat.

Fun may feel like sprinkles, but it’s as important and filling as potatoes.

Why is fun so important? I’m glad you asked! Fun is what makes life, well, fun. We work so we can have fun. It’s what we live for. It’s the second question people ask after “what do you do for a living?”. “What do you do for fun?”

Fun is so important because it brings joy into our lives.

We need joy just as much as we need love.

We can’t live without it.

And yet we starve ourselves because we’ve relegated joy to being “extra” like sprinkles on a cupcake.

We can only enjoy it once we’ve finished our dinner of work, chores, and obligations. Only then do we budget fun into our diet.

Fun is joy. If you are having fun, you are filling yourself with joy.

Make fun the potatoes in your dinner. Make it a priority. An obligation. Schedule it in your day, week, and month.

Fill up on fun and see how your life changes.

No one regrets having fun.
